Gift Ideas for Meditation Practice
Posted by Jay Suthers on Nov 15th, 2023
As I write this article, we are approaching the Holiday Season and thinking about gift ideas for friends and loved ones. Gift giving is such a kind and thoughtful thing to do throughout the year and we generally want to give something that is meaningful to the recipient. We seek to understand their personal interests and to find a gift that will be useful to those interests.
In some cases, we need to realize that some gift ideas are deeply personal or come with a commitment. For example, giving someone a gift of meditation cushions requires an understanding of which cushions will be comfortable, what colors the recipient will prefer, and whether they regularly practice meditation and will make use of the cushions. I would generally say that it is best to give meditation cushions to someone who has requested them as a gift instead of making any assumptions about what they might need. If you are not certain, It might be best to give them a simpler gift that they can use for meditation.
Here are some gift ideas for meditation practice (note that some links in this article will take you to Amazon and we may earn a commission on any purchases you make):
Meditation Cushions
Meditation Cushions come in a variety of shapes, sizes, types of fill, and colors. When gifting a meditation cushion, it is best if the recipient has requested one or has given you enough information so that you can choose the best fit for them.
Meditation Shawls and Blankets
Meditation Shawls are a great gift because, like any throw, they can be used for any occasion where the gift recipient wants to be warm and comfortable.
Meditation Timers
Meditation Timers make a versatile gift. They oftentimes have gentle, quiet signals at the end of the countdown instead of jarring beeps. Unfortunately, there are not many options available. We carry the popular Pyramid Gong Timers but have not been able to get them from the manufacturer in Germany for quite some time. We hope to have them again in early 2024.
Meditation Books
There is an abundance of meditation books and audio CDs. While this is certainly another gift where you would prefer to get a specific request, you can easily select a book on Mindfulness or something with daily devotions to enhance someone's daily meditation practice.
Meditation Mala Beads
A meditation mala is a string of beads used for meditation. The beads help to maintain focus by slowly rolling the beads between the fingers. Meditators oftentimes repeat a mantra with each bead. These can be a useful gift for anyone because they can simply be worn as a type of simple, natural, earthy jewelry.
Meditation Singing Bowls and Hand Chimes
Singing Bowls and Hand Chimes can be used by themselves as a form of meditation or they can be used to begin and end a meditation or yoga session. The resonant sound of these devices can help the meditator get centered and ready for meditation. Keep in mind that singing bowls are generally made by hand and every single bowl has its own unique sound.
Wind Chimes
Wind Chimes are a wonderfully, peaceful gift for anyone. The gentle sound on a patio or in a garden most often make people feel at peace. There are many wind chimes to choose from. Generally, the small chimes make high-pitched sounds and the large chimes make lower-pitched sounds.
